Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram Leela….This one is adapted from Shakespeare’s epic love story Romeo & Juliet. Bollywood had tired their hands on adapting this story with “Ishaqzaade” and “Isaaq” but did not do justice to it. Whereas here Sanjay Leela Bhansali gives an amazing tribute to Shakespeare in a well scripted desi version of Romeo & Juliet as “Ram-Leela”.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali sat on the chair of the director after Guzaarish who had his hands busy with production with other movies off lately. The screenplay does not go dull even for a slightest moment. Sanjay has a penchant for Rajasthan and Gujrati culture, who had captured every detail to finesse. His violent approach in the narration was amazing, with strong dramatic content with a great streak of romance. He tried to keep the landmark scenes from the original adaptation, like the balcony scene between Ram & Leela and their first cute meet. Sanjay have dished out an electrifying romantic drama.
Ranveer Singh has proved his mettle with this movie, he can not only be a charming lad but an extraordinary actor with his versatile performance as “Ram”, dialogue delivery was perfect and crisp, which were crunched out well. The scene were he challenges Supriya Pathak was dynamic and worth applauding.
Deepika Padukone well she fills the screen with her sensuality endlessly, you can’t help but fall in love with her character. I would say her best performance till date. She has been explored well with her acting skills by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Her character was well sketched and had a smooth transition.
Supriya Pathak a performance to look for in this flick, she is remembered well as “Hansa” from the famous comedy TV serial “Khichdi” , you will see her in different avataar. She has given an amazing performance and her character brings in the dark shade to the whole movie.
Richa Chadda is another surprise element to look for, she was spectacular, her role may be less but a pivotal one. She is also from the TV world.
The entire set up was spectacularly shot and captured by Ravi Varman, whose lens work gave an amazing view of Rajasthan from the artistic vision of Sanjay. Editing was tight by Sanjay Leela and Rajesh G.Pandey. Music was composed by Sanjay himself with background score by Monty Sharma. All the songs were well choreographed complimenting the story. Cameo by Priyanka Chopra was hot, who did a good job in the item number.
What makes Ram-Leela a good watch is the electrifying chemistry between the lead, powerful performances, well written dialogues, artistic camera work, scintillating music with violent streak in narration. On the whole It’s Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s masterpiece. This Ram-Leela is definitely worth a watch, book your tickets soon, because “Jab Ram naam ka raag lage, toh paani meing bhi Aag lage”.
