Chennai Dost a Gay, Lesbian and Bisexual Community based organization in Chennai is organizing an LGBT Film Festival named Chennai Rainbow Film Festival .

About Chennai Dost

Chennai Dost is one of the major support group for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual men and women in Chennai, with 5000 registered members founded by Vikranth Prasanna. Established in the year 2008, Chennai Dost aims to create a healthy, non sexual social space for Gay, Lesbian, Bi-sexual men and women.

In the last 8 years, Chennai Dost has organized social events like Art Expos, Parties, Workshops, Awareness programs, Movie screenings, Social gatherings etc.

About Chennai Rainbow Film Festival


As a community initiative, Chennai Rainbow Film Festival (CRFF) aims to provide a venue for screening the works of established and emerging gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and queer video and film makers or others who portray our community in a positive and affirmative light.

To bring noteworthy films by local, national and international talent to Front Range audiences, including films that may not otherwise see distribution in area theaters.

To build LGBTQ community and counter issues of invisibility and misinformation by providing a forum for viewing films that depict our lives and loves, and discussing the films in a social and political context.

The film festival runs for 5 days between 4th – 8th January, 2017. (Due to the demise of the former CM J.Jayalalitha, the event has been rescheduled to 4th January).

Please find below the schedule of the 5 days event.

4th January – Opening ceremony, Red carpet, Fashion show by Sneha Nair, Jules Idi Amin, Rainbow Ambassador awards to British Deputy High Commissioner Mr.Bharat Joshi, US Consulate General Philip Min etc. The event will be held at Park Hyatt, Chennai

5th January – Cultural programmes and Movie screenings of films such as “23C” etc at MM Theatre, Kodambakkam

6th January – Music show by Adam Greig & Alisha Thomas, Movie Screenings at Alliance Francaise de Madras, Nungambakkam

7th January – Cultural performances, Panel discussion conducted by Apsara Reddy, Movie screenings etc at Auditorium of Madras School of Social Work, Egmore.

8th January – Screenings of films such as “Stonewall” & “Ladies and Gentlewomen” etc at AGS Cinemas in T Nagar.

Well known journalist, socialite and politician Apsara Reddy will be the brand ambassador of the festival this year.

The film festival will be screening Indian based films and documentaries in Special Category based on the theme ‘Hues of love’ which depicts the love and issues of the alternate sexualities and gender minorities.

All 5 days more than 50 short films and documentaries both Indian and International will be screened. Out of the more than 400 entries submitted our expert panel has handpicked around 50 films for screening. Entry is free and open for all.
