Vanakkam Chennai….is a double treat for Producer Udhayanidhi Stalin one being the success as a producer as the movie has done a great business overall which has made the screens in the city to be increased due to demand and the other being the successful launch of his wife as a Director Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi whose maiden venture has become a hit.
This has Shiva in the lead, a bloke from the village comes to Chennai in order to make it big has been paired opposite to Priya Anand who is an ultra modern rebel child comes down to India for a photography event to capture the true culture and heritage of the country. Both of them have been cheated by a house broker, due to which forcibly they live together and put up with each others nonsense until they figure out how to get their money back.
Shiva has matured as an actor with Vanakkam Chennai, his usual comical antics are still there but have developed some acting skills along with it. I had my doubts when I saw Shiva in the lead for a rom-com, but he proved everyone wrong, he was good and at the same made everyone believe that he can be one. Santhanam who happens to appear in the movie just before the Intermission makes it up for the lost screen time and keeps you company for the rest of the feature. On the other hand Priya Anand who was celebrating Ethir Neechal’s success, has done a great job.Her character was in charge right from the beginning, and for once leading lady was not used for glamour, her character was independent in all aspects, which clearly shows the influence of a woman as Director.
Another USP of this movie is it’s music, which is composed by Anirudh Ravichander, who is on cloud nine with his future projects and a very talented chap, every track in the movie was well received by the audiences and were really good,”Engadi Porandha” whose video was choreographed in a very funny way which had Shiva dancing, now you can Imagine why it was funny. My favorite is “Oh Penne” this one is a beautiful track, and not to forget “Chennai City Gangsta” which appears in the end during credits was a foot tapping one.
It’s a very light hearted predictable romantic comedy, this being the case you should forget about few logical things which may not fit the attire, as this one is there to just entertain you regardless. Catch this one with bunch of friends or your loved ones, either being the case you will enjoy the movie to the maximum.
