Shuddh Desi Romance….The director who gave us colorful “Band Baaja Baarat” returns with this unusual love story. Maneesh Sharma has a taste for Desi type flicks, he sticks to the local flavor strictly with a tryst of pardesi style. Here he deals with the current generation which is very forward in thinking and does not give a damn about what the society thinks. The first scene with Sushant’s introduction speaking on the double standards related to Indian Marriage system is quite thinkable and it’s pretty much true, along with the way people react to two individuals relationship. It deals with live-in relationship, friendship, attraction, marriage and finally love. A love triangle which gets you tangled. Is marriage necessary, definitely yes only if both the individuals are on the same page, how many agree to it, is a big question.
Jaideep Sahni has kept the screenplay simple and straight, it does drags out a bit in the end but that’s negligible. The comedy factor is shared by all the characters in the movie, and is not forced, it gels with movie and has a constant flow,it makes you laugh through out the course. Sushant who is 2 movies old is simply superb he played the role to perfection, who is afraid of commitment, but a very lovable guy. He has the charm which would capture the girls with a glance, he has a delectable screen presence topped with good performance. Vaani Kapoor a model turned actress surprises you with really good performance, she is quite a tall beauty, and dishes out precise attitude required of the character. Parineeti Chopra is a darling who you would fall in love instantly, she has an oozing charm which would capture anyone looking at the screen. Her character as Gayatri was amazing, her performance is great, she can emote very well and does that convincingly whether it’s romantic moments, anger, hatred or when she kisses. Which you would find a lot in this flick. And finally Rishi Kapoor who recently is on a spree with continuous successful performances, and so does here with the character “Tauji” he was damn funny.
Manu Anand’s camera work was stunning who showed the pink city Jaipur splendidly. The music was another attraction which complimented the story very well, my favorite track is “Gulabi(Pink)” but it had so many colors which was a visual treat.
The idea of the movie was to show the modern thoughts in Desi style, which pretty much Maneesh was successful in doing that, how far the audience accept this forward thinking, will have to wait and watch. Don’t go in thinking this as “Friends with Benefits” or “No Strings Attached” the idea is common but the execution is different. To see what happens between the 3 lead characters, catch this “Hatke” romantic flick at a cinema near you, critics have different opinions about this movie. I would say it’s what it is and has done decent justice to it. Taste this Shuddh Desi Romance and savor it, you’ll love it!!!!
