Maan Karate….It started as a fantasy in a forest with a Saint meditating and offers a blessing requested by Satish. Who was trying to prove a point that the saint is a hoax, which leaves them with a daily newspaper giving them an insight on what is going to happen few months down the line. Being urban and uptown these youngsters ignore the blessing and move on with their life, but the facts from newspaper start to become reality. Which they use as an opportunity for upcoming in their life, that’s when Sivakarthikeyan steps in and plays a vital role. what happens next is the story with too much of masala with inappropriate dose of boxing.

It was surprising to see that Murugadoss have penned the story for this flick, as it does not reflect anywhere that he had a part in it. I would say Maan Karate is the worst he had done. Here the logic takes a major hit, I understand when it comes to masala flicks you don’t look for logic, but masala films itself have a pattern which this does not fit much. Debutante director Thirukumaran tried to merge 2 or more genre in to one flick whose result did not come out well. The comedy is good at regular intervals nothing else is good. Boxing is a great sport, they could have spent little time in researching the sport to give us a great show.

Sivakarthikeyan is now become a brand, was astounded to see the fan following he has got. It’s now official that he is the most bankable star for box office results, his performance was good, he was funny, witty, romantic and have learned to dance really well. That’s not enough to carry the poorly scripted movie. Vamsi Krishna as Siva’s opponent did a good job, and he is growing to be the new face of villain in the industry.Hansika is mere eye candy nothing more than that, she looks fabulous in this flick, It’s high time she starts acting rather than being a barbie doll. Satish does brings in few laughs, Soori as Tyger Tyson keeps us laughing for sometime in his cameo appearance. Another character to look for is Arunraja Kamaraj who plays Siva’s friend has done a good job in a comical role.

Sukumar’s lens work was great as usual, whether it’s the forest or the city, he has shown them at their best through his magical eye. Another saving grace was Anirudh’s music which kept filling up at regular intervals to boost the energy level. The background score brings in the mood it required during the pivotal scenes.

This Karate Kid fails to succeed as many things go wrong and logic takes a plunge. Still Siva’s new larger than life Image will make this one a success, who is in the league of actors where anything sells. Maan Karate takes a hook punch, watch it if you are in for some laughs and don’t care about logic,If you do stay away from it. I have given 3 for the technical work, music and comedy.

+’s- Great cinematography, good performance by Siva and comedy.

-‘s- Poor screenplay and direction.

Rating: 3/5
