Khoobsurat….This being a remake of the yesteryear director Hrishikesh Mukherjee the king of comedies who entertained everyone back in the 80‘s with Rekha in the lead. The present version is directed by Shashanka Ghosh, he may not be very well known for his movies but one stands out for it’s title itself “Quick Gun Murugan“. Shashanka did justice to the classic with ample of humor, romance and melodrama.
It’s a story of a free spirited “Milli” a physiotherapist sent to a Royal Family to cure one of the Royalty. The mayhem she creates with her clumsy behavior, makes the royals scream out for help and how this misfit fits in that place forms the crux of the story. This happens to be the first Disney’s official Disney Princess Indian Movie. It’s been Sonam Kapoor’s dream since childhood to be one, and now her dream came true. This movie is a start, as we don’t get movies of this genre in Bollywood very often, earlier “Aisha” created one and now once again Sonam with “Khoobsurat“.
Sonam Kapoor was the perfect choice for this role as “Milli“, no one else would have done justice to this character. She carries off Milli with Elan…She is got that flair for the chic look, at the same time be stupendously funny. She gave an outstanding performance and makes you fall in love with her, she personifies hotness with oodles of cuteness, her wide smile lights up the mood.
Fawad Afzal Khan a new hottie in Bollywood is an Pakistani actor and was seen first in “Khuda Ke Liye“. He makes quite an impression as young Prince. His acting skills are equally good with his dreamy looks which made the ladies go crazy. He gave a great performance.
Rathna Patak Shah and Kirron Kher gave equally good performances as their mothers in the flick, Ratna was uptight and Kirron was chirpy and breezy. That was well supported by Aamir Raza Hussain who was great. Aditi Rao Hydari gave a sweet cameo.
The cinematography by Tushar Kanti Ray covered the royalty with elegance, and it was well edited by Bakul Matiyani. The music by Sneha Khanwalkar was great and the songs were well placed in the movie without taking the focus off the film.
Khoobsurat is a movie which brings back Hrishikesh’s humor in a modern style with designer labels and quirky romance. Shashanka makes Khoobsurat even prettier with the vivacious Sonam who is the soul of this romantic comedy. It makes you laugh really hard and haven’t seen the audience this lively cheering and hooting for most of the scenes in the flick. Khoobsurat eventually is a Happily ever After!!!
+’s – Good direction, great performances laced with quirky humor.
