Ek Villain….Mohit Suri after the success of Aashiqui 2 didn’t wait long to start another project. Like the previous one even this was heavy on music front but quite loses on screenplay and characterization. It’s a story of a gangster(Sidharth Malhotra) who falls for a happy go lucky kind a girl(Shraddha Kapoor), tries to reform. Just when he does a tragedy strikes in his life leading him back to the darkness he came from. The plot is good, but the execution was not up to the mark.
Sidharth Malhotra was seen as lover boy earlier dons a tough look in this one, looks wise he does looks tough but the acting was not tough enough, his first action scene where he is about kill a gangster didn’t have the heat it requires to carry off the role given to him, he eventually improvises as the story travels.
Shraddha Kapoor is still hung over on Aashiqui 2, she was a natural in that one, which made the character so lovable. Whereas in Ek Villain she tries to be the same girl with a bohemian look. At few points she makes you like the character “Aisha” but on the whole it did not do what “Aarohi” did.
One character which did justification to the title was Riteish Deshmukh. We have seen him always in mindless comedies, with this he has proved that he could be a versatile actor. His performance was outstanding, seeing him transform from gags to villain was great. He brings some life to this overdone melodrama, with his cold blooded attitude. Scenes involving him keeps you engaged. His performance was well supported by Aamna Sharif.
Mithoon again delivered a great album with Ankit tiwari. The music was good, after watching the flick my current favorite is “Awaari”, well I agree the first reason is Prachi Desai who set the screen on fire with her raunchy looks, apart from that the song has a good ring to it.
Mohit Suri brings in the heat towards the climax, by then audience lose patience. There were lot of expectations from this flick since the promo’s were released, too bad it did not live up to it.
Riteish Deshmukh is the saving grace in EK VILLAIN!!!!
+’s – Riteish’s outstanding performance and music.
-‘s – The screenplay was poor and was overdone at most places.
