Cuckoo…. They say love is blind,in this case it truly makes sense. Raju Murugan have tastefully crafted a love story of a blind couple.

A blind person always has a great sense of hearing, the lead has such characteristics. Thamizh played by Dinesh is an avid fan of Illayaraja,he sings in a music troupe, where he meets love of his life Kodi played by Malavika. How both try to express their love and their day to day issues is a heartwarming love story.

Raju Murugan did a fine job in direction, but in the second half he brings in more conflicts which makes it very depressingly long, could have either cut short the length or should have made it more engaging. The lead characters are the two pillars of this movie who hold this together firmly.

Dinesh is hardly two movies old in a lead role,he has done few cameo appearances though,at a early stage a performance of this caliber has to be well appreciated. Acting as a blind person is a toughie,he did that with great dedication in fact he lived the character Thamizh. The last time I saw a performance of this madness is Kamal Hassan’s “Moondram pirai”. Dinesh did an outstanding job.

Malavika a newbie in tinsel town, was bold enough to accept a role of this kind for a debut. Usually female leads prefer a glamorous entry or a commercial pot boiler, she was on par with Dinesh’s performance. She looks very innocent and pretty, whether a person is blind or not cant stop falling for her.

Their on screen chemistry is uncanny, they made a cute pair. Cuckoo does pulls one or two of your heartstrings, it makes you laugh, cry and fall in love. The music by Santhosh Narayanan was perfect, the romantic duet “Manasula Soora Kaathey” was a memorable one. Camera by was handled well by P. K. Varma,Editing was good but draggy screenplay made it look sloppy.

Cuckoo does croons sweet love throughout, a warm story narrated well, with riveting performance by Dinesh and mesmerizing Malavika. Thamizh and Kodi’s love story is definitely worth a watch if you have the patience.

+’s – outstanding performances and good storyline.

Rating: 4/5.
